On Sunday October 4, 2015 “The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure” event was held at Brock University. The event is primarily sponsored by CIBC bank to raise money for research towards breast cancer. This is a fundraising event that is dear to my heart because, I am completing my journey to cure my own breast cancer. When Rachel, Jessie, Myra, Jessica and Sarah decided to enrol a team “Amie’s Advocates” I new this was a walk I wanted to support. One of the questions that frequents your mind when you are given a breast cancer diagnosis is why did this grow in my body? What causes breast cancer? The fundraising efforts for “The CIBC Run for the Cure” go towards research that will help us understand why this terrible disease is occurring in 1 out of 9 women.
Thank you to all of the Heritage Dental Hygiene clients, friends and colleagues who supported “Amie’s Advocates” with a donation. I am grateful to you for your support. Your donations combined helped our team raise around $6500.00. The fundraising efforts for “The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure” in Niagara Region raised $224,000.00! I want to thank Jessie Ritchie, Rachel Robinson and Mary Montgomery for organizing the event. Your hard work resulted in our team winning the “ Friends & Family Team Challenge Award” for the day!
I am in the process of completing the final three rounds of chemotherapy. Although we have not finalized a date of return, I look forward to returning to work very soon!
